Our Datacentre
All of OuterEdge UK's equipment is located at the BlueSquare datacentres in Maidenhead. We are a Tier 2 network provider. This allows us to offer a resilient environment for our web hosting platform, based in a secure facility the data centre is built to an N+1 specification, so that if any particular service fails - e.g. electricity or air conditioning - another backup service automatically takes over the failed service's job.
The Datacentre is one of the few carrier-neutral facilities in the South East of England. The network operates a multi-homed network utilising BGP4 technology. Simply put, we have multiple connections to the Internet with different backbone providers, and are able to access fiber traveling direct to the USA, Paris and Amsterdam. Should any connection fail our other connections automatically take all the traffic. Not only does this mean that we are very unlikely to lose connectivity to the Internet, but it also means that traffic moving to and from our network can choose from a range of paths to get to its final destination.
All of our servers have multiple hard drives to provide redundancy and security for your data, along with powerful processors to ensure fast page loading times.
It is important to point out that all of our servers are our own and not rented. We do not resell anyone elses web hosting services.
Data Backup
We will endeavour to keep backups of your data in order to restore the server if we have a disk failure. However, we provide no guarantee that we will be able to do so. It is in your own interests to keep a copy of your web site backed up on your own computer. You can do this by simply uploading changes from a copy you hold or by using the backup tool provided with most of our web hosting accounts.
If you have an accident with your site we will do our best to help, but we may not be able to restore your files for you.
It is impossible to have too many backups. Keeping a local copy at your location is the best way to protect your data.
If you are an unmanaged dedicated or virtual server customer then we do not keep any backups of your files. If you have managed service we will endeavour to keep regular backups of your server. Again, we can make no guarantees about the integrity of backups.
